On Monday, April 21, in Columbia, SC, SCDOT, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, and Carolinas AGC held a joint press conference to kick off National Work Zone Awareness Week.
It was announced that 24 blue light trailers will be deployed across highways throughout South Carolina, with the rollout beginning in active work zones starting July 1. Eight trailers will be deployed in each region—the Upstate, Midlands, and Lowcountry.
Brent Evans, Vice President of Business and Engineering Services at Banks Construction Company and 2025 Chair of the CAGC Highway Division, spoke on behalf of the industry. He highlighted the positive impact this initiative could have on reducing speeding and improving safety in work zones—and thanked SCDOT for their continued commitment to keeping crews safe.
Back in August 2024, the Operation Work Zone Awareness bill was signed into law. This legislation requires the DMV to implement a construction work zone safety training program, which is now mandatory for all new drivers.
Together, the 2024 legislation and the 2025 rollout of these blue light trailers represent meaningful steps forward in protecting not only the men and women working on our roads, but also the traveling public.
We’re proud to see our very own Brent Evans representing the industry and standing alongside partners like SCDOT, the SC Department of Public Safety, and Carolinas AGC to move work zone safety forward.
Our employees share our dedication to reliability and innovation and demonstrate the talent and drive to get the job done right and on time.
